Biography

Johan Van der Eycken is Head of Service Digital Archiving of the State Archives. Johan holds a doctor's degree in history with a dissertation titled Ridders aan de Maas. Adel in het graafschap Loon, 1300-1520. He worked at KU Leuven, where he was incharge of the project "750 years of parishes in Leuven". Since 2004, he works at the State Archives, first within the framework of the FWO-project Latijns onderwijs in de Nederlanden (1500-1795), later as an archivist at the State Archives in Hasselt. He is currently in charge, among others, of the development of a digital archiving policy for the federal authorities and supervises the project SODHA (www.sodha.be). He is Country mananger for Archives Portal Europe Foundation together with Raphaëlle Claude, coordinator of DARIAH-FED (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities) and the DARIAH-EU working group Sustainable Publishing of metadata. Johan is also collaborator in the research group Nieuwe Tijd (OE Geschiedenis) of KU Leuven and specialised institutional, social and economic history of the Middle Ages and Modern Times.
